How to reach and start the Trek?

The Chopta trek starts at Haridwar which is well connected by road and railroad. Haridwar is nearly 220 km from Delhi and there are many trains and buses. Haridwar is also close to the Uttrakhand state capital Dehradun (about 1-hour road travel). The nearest airport, Jolly Grant Airport, is nearly 35 km from Haridwar and there are daily flights from Delhi and other cities of India. You can also rent a taxi or cab.

Where to Base Camp?

Chopta is the base camp for the trek. It is also referred to as 'Mini Switzerland' by many. It is located at an altitude of nearly 2600 meters. From here you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the region and mountains covered with dense foliage. The place has not yet been defiled by commercialization and thus has maintained its pristine appearance. It is also one of the easy treks and thus a good choice for the beginners.

What is the best time to travel?

Although a Chopta trek provides wonderful trekking experience throughout the year, the most awesome experience can be had from March to May. Chopta trekking in Uttarakhand during this time offers you pleasant weather and clear skies. You will be able to enjoy the cold and yet comfortable breeze and behold the awesome view of the landscape.

The local people

At Haridwar, where the trek starts, you will find crowd and a bit of hustle bustle. This is because a lot of devotees come to the place all year round. The locals are quite warm and welcoming. As you would progress along the trek, the population will get thinner and you will meet fewer people. As you would go up trekking in Uttarakhand you will find the locals to be even more amiable and courteous.
